June 2, 2008

At their May 2008 meeting, the Board of Directors of New Mexico Cancer Care Alliance approved David Garcia, M.D. from the University of New Mexico Cancer Center, Albuquerque, as a new NMCCA Participant. Memorial Medical Center, Las Cruces, was also approved as an Institutional Participant. MMC is a JCAHO accredited 286-bed acute care facility that has been a part of the Las Cruces community for over 50 years. MMC has both inpatient and outpatient oncology services. Memorial Ikard Cancer Treatment Center offers the latest technology and a specially trained and certified staff provides the finest in radiation oncology and treatment. The cancer treatment center allows close-to-home radiation treatments and care by a highly skilled and caring team. In 2009, MMC plans to add Tomotherapy capability to the Ikard Cancer Treatment Center. MMC will be the second hospital in New Mexico to offer this advanced treatment option.
NMCCA looks forward to working with these new Participants and to the expertise that they bring to the organization.
The NMCCA Board of Directors also welcomes Dr. Thomas Byrd from New Mexico Veterans Administration Health Care System as a new Director to the NMCCA Board.
